Sobukan’s mission is to help people like you to be healthier, happier and safer.
Sobukan is the product of 3 decades of research. As a young black belt, sensei Chris Gillies didn’t feel worthy of the honour and wanted to find a dojo in which he could learn more about:
- Weaponry defence
- Self defence
Furthermore, training had to be:
- Fun & friendly
- Safe, yet effective
- Traditional, yet progressive
Chris was unable to find a local dojo that fulfilled all these criteria, so spent the next 20 years researching the world’s best martial arts and training methods in order to fill the void. As a result, Sobukan was established in 2011.
You will benefit from regular physical exercise, improved posture and body awareness. Expect your stamina, strength, flexibility and weight control to improve.
An important theme at Sobukan martial arts is the pursuit of goals including a healthy life balance. People tend to feel happiest when safe, secure and progressing towards achieving goals.
Martial arts are a great family/social activity and Sobukan provides a great, fun environment to meet like-minded people.
You will improve your awareness to danger, and build confidence in your ability to deal with difficult situations should the need arise.
Training methods are fun, safe and effective. Great care is taken to minimise the risk of injury in training.
