The Sobukan syllabus is designed to cultivate complete martial artists. Advanced Sobukan grades are highly skilled in striking, throwing and grappling, with strong self-defence abilities.

Sobukan members have earned their grades, and achieving a black belt takes many years. While there are no shortcuts, learning is streamlined by a focus on the common principles that underpin the parent arts of Japanese jujutsu, Judo, Kudo, Karate, Kenpo, Muay Thai, Boxing, Shooto, Pangamot and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. This enables us to simultaneously develop skills in multiple facets of martial arts.

Sōgōbudō (総合武道)

Sogobudo is a mixed martial art that combines Sobukan jujutsu with the powerful and precise strikes of Karate and Muay Thai, Kenpo trapping and partner drills, Kudo sparring and self-defence scenarios of Krav Maga.

In addition to beginners, these classes have proven popular with experienced martial artists who seek deeper understanding and advancement in their martial art journeys.

Jūjutsu (柔術)

Sobukan jujutsu combines self-defence and arresting techniques from Japanese jujutsu, throwing from Judo, weapon defence from Doce Pares Pangamot and grappling from Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Jujutsu practitioners have the option to defend themselves without hurting the attacker. This makes jujutsu a great option for police and security personnel, as well as anyone with a strong social conscience.

In addition to the syllabus summary below, Sobukan members have access to a detailed syllabus booklet providing support and helpful resources for each stage of learning.

Senior students also have access to a Sobukan leadership guide to assist the transformation from regular student to senpai (senior member).
